	History
	Ithaca
	It was inhabited from the prehistoric era, in the Bronze Age and in the Minoan era.
After 1000 BC Ithaca became an important trading center of many localities in Greece.
It was occupied by the Franks, the Venetians, the Turks and repeatedly sacked by pirates.
The Ottoman domination ceased with the arrival of the British who in 1864 ceded the island to Greece.

The major urban centers are the capital Vathi. coastal resort town of Kioni, the village located on the mountain of Peraxori e Anogi characteristic village located in the hinterland of the island. 
Beaches
Among the main beaches equipped for bathing are those of Paliokaravo, Loutsa, Aetos and Tsirimpis, located near Vathi, in the eastern part of the island of Ithaca, we find Frikes, Kioni, while in the western coast Aghios Ioannis and the bay of Polis, near Stavros. Departing from Vathi by ferry you can reach Mnimata and Gidaki. Among other noteworthy beaches are to be considered Aghios Nikolaos, Katsikouli, Sarakiniko, Kaminia, Gidari, Filiatro, Skinos, Mavrounas, Tsimpida, Sarakinari, Plakoutses, Filiatro, Lagadia, Koutoupi, Aspros Gialos, Kourvoulia, Limeniae Limenia pear.
