Podesta's Palace

The construction of the Palace
of the Podestà from the beginning of the 12th century until
first half of the 15th century it hosted the Podestà
of Bergamo and various municipal functions.
Originally it was the family residence
Suardi-Colleoni, from which the name derives
Domus Suardorum.
The building is connected to the adjacent building by an overpass
Palazzo della Ragione, in which, in
occasion of restoration after the devastating
fire of 1513, the architect
Pietro Isabello created a great single
hall, which takes the name of hall
of the trusses.
On the occasion of the dominion of Venice and with the
Austrians, the Podesta's Palace was used
to various functions.
